A Prayer for Father’s Day

The Rev’d Greg Rainey

O God of wonder and steadfast love, we offer you the fullness of our hearts this day: our gratitude and our sorrow, our longing and our joy.

We call to mind the fathers who have shaped us, and all who have nurtured and guided us with a father's care; the love we have received, the love we have longed for, the love we have given, and the love we have tried to give.

You alone know the fullness of all we carry — the memories, and the hopes of our hearts.

Sustain us in your love as we remember, celebrate, or grieve. Where there is gratitude, receive our thanks. Where there is sorrow, bring your comfort. Where there is longing, grant your peace.

Give us grace to know your abiding presence, and to trust in your unfailing love, this day and always.

Amen.
